COMMENTARY
While the 4-0 scoreline against Derby County will fill many Aston Villa fans with joy there will be serious concerns over the status of centre back Tommy Elphick. The defender was stretchered off with an injury blow suffered without another player anywhere near him and that screams a serious setback for the Villa mainstay. With the amount of injury problems suffered this season it is no wonder the fans are bemoaning their luck but the fact of the matter is that Elphick was brought back from his loan at Hull City because of a lack of defenders. Yes, Dean Smith might have managed to bring Tyrone Mings in over January but with Elphick set for a spell on the sidelines the manager will be scratching his head as to how best to fill the gaping void. The incident has put a real cloud over what was turning out to be a massive result and confidence lifting performance. Only at Villa Park.
This is Futbol has gathered a selection of the supporters’ tweets:
Tommy Elphick down now as he’s beating the ground after a non contact injury. Doesn’t look good, this one. 65’
