Rangers have appealed the yellow card dished out to striker Alfredo Morelos against Aberdeen as he faces the potential of a ban from the Scottish Cup next season, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Gers have launched a move to have the booking, which was handed to the Colombian for simulation, rescinded following the club’s 2-0 cup defeat to the Dons.

With a one match ban coming as a result of numerous bookings in the competition, it is said a decision will be made on Friday to determine whether he will be made to serve the suspension in their first cup game next season, should he remain as a Rangers player.

Opinion

With the amount of speculation circling around Morelos’ future at Ibrox, this is definitely some optimistic forward planning from Rangers – but it shows that they are going to stick to their guns regardless of whether he stays or goes. Things like diving are so hard to argue against because it all comes down to the opinion of the officials in that very moment and the appeals board would no doubt be reluctant to suggest their referee had made a mistake. Morelos has found himself on the wrong side of the law more than once during his time in Scotland and it appears as though he is building up something of a reputation for himself, not only for being aggressive but for trying to fool referees with his antics out on the pitch. Friday will see whether he has escaped the ban which he might never have served in the first place – but it will be a moral victory for the Gers if they do manage to appeal it.
