Rangers may have tied attacker Alfredo Morelos down to a new contract but that doesn’t mean he still won’t be tempted to exit if the right offer comes along.

Far too often players have signed new deals with a club only for it to mean that the side are strengthening their case to demand more money from an interested party.

This could be the case with Morelos, and the Gers should continue to be concerned that his long-term future may not be at Ibrox.

The 22-year-old is a key player in Steven Gerrard’s side as he is the main man when it comes to scoring goals; shown by the fact he has scored 28 in 42 outings this season.

Yet despite this impressive record, Morelos is thought to be sweating over whether Columbia manager Carlos Queiroz will name him in his first squad tomorrow.

“I still have not received an official call from Carlos Queiroz or anybody from his coaching staff,” said Morelos, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“So I don’t know whether I am in the squad.

“I’d love to be part of it for the games in Japan and South Korea.

“I know there is a lot of competition because we are blessed with many strikers and we have a lot of players who are on form for their clubs.

“But I will always fight to be in the national team. I know the only way I have a chance of getting in the squad is by scoring goals for Rangers.”

When you consider that Morelos has done all he can to impress for the Gers ahead of Queiroz revealing his squad on Monday, if the forward doesn’t make the cut he is going to question what he can do to earn another cap.

It may even lead him to think that if he can’t get in the Columbia squad while wowing for Rangers then he needs to move to a different team to get noticed.

Being able to feature for Columbia is obviously important to Morelos and if he is to get snubbed, and continues to get ignored, it may influence his future at Ibrox in a way Rangers fans will not want to imagine.
