Rangers defensive midfielder Andy Halliday sent a clear message ahead of the clash with Kilmarnock on Saturday and he must be already regretting his remarks.

The 27-year-old midfield enforcer effectually claimed that every Gers player was playing for their Ibrox future as he said everyone needs to show why they deserved to be at the club.

“So we’ve got nine finals to try and prove that we deserve to be at this football club,” stated Halliday, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

Yet Halliday is no doubt sweating over his own pre-game remarks as he showed no signs that he warranted a place at the Gers in the 1-1 draw with Killie.

The 27-year-old was playing as a left-back against Killie on Saturday, a position he is comfortable with, and had a horror show in the process.

Halliday didn’t seem to hit the mark with his passes, didn’t inspire confidence when being called to defend and wasted every opportunity he had from set-pieces.

In fact Steven Gerrard seem to be equally as frustrated by the enforcer’s latest performance as he didn’t waste time hauling him off and replacing him.

While the Gers player has transformed under Gerrard this season to look worthy of playing for the first-team, football can quickly change.

Just as quickly as Halliday redeem his Rangers career to regularly feature this season, he can be quickly axed and facing the thought of a possible exit.

While the 27-year-old will have to continue to disappoint in the coming games for this situation to emerge, he is the one that cranked up the pressure and opened the door for players to be put on the chopping block with his remarks.

This means that if Halliday genuinely meant what he said, and there’s no reason to believe he didn’t, it seems he might be having sleepless nights if he doesn’t up his game quickly.
