OPINION
However, Fabian Delph envisage his return to the Manchester City side, it probably won’t have been anywhere near as disastrous as the realty was against Swansea City. The England international was completely at fault for the Swans first goal, mindlessly bringing down his opponent when he really should have stayed on his feet, and from that moment onwards he offered very little for City in any capacity. The full-back has been out of the side for a while now and it really, really showed against the Championship side. He looked rusty and off the pace, and very aspect of his game, from his passing to his positioning, looked laboured and ponderous. You have to ask how much of it is his fault, however. Yes, he is the player, and yes, he was woeful on Saturday evening, but surely Pep Guardiola should have eased him back into the action as opposed to chucking him in at the deep end, especially against a side with such pace on the wings. Whether it was arrogance, complacency, or just a dreadful, rare misjudgement from the Spaniard, he has to shoulder his own share of the culpability, but that shouldn’t excuse from Delph taking his fair share too.
