Many Celtic fans will surely be thrilled over the fact Sunderland manager Jack Ross has taken to the media to gush about Lewis Morgan.

The 22-year-old left-sided midfielder joined Sunderland on loan in January and it seems he has already made a memorable impression on his boss.

Morgan has made five appearances for the Black Cats and Ross believes that not only does he think the 22-year-old is still good enough for the Hoops but that the player’s belief and confidence in his ability is still high.

“I think everyone knows what I think about Lewis. When he left St Mirren for Celtic, I said at the time he was good enough to play there and I stand by that,” Ross told the Herald Scotland.

“I still believe Lewis is good enough to be a Celtic player. He has the ability. Okay, it’s not easy to make a 100 per cent judgement because you don’t know what another manager is looking for in terms, for example, of how someone fits into the way a team plays.

“However, I have not seen anything to suggest his confident and belief in himself has diminished. Lewis has always had that. Look, he is a good footballer and he’s still young.

Morgan struggled to stake his claim in the first-team for the Hoops this season, making 13 appearances, and it was clear to see that he wasn’t up to the level he needed to be.

Yet the 22-year-old, who has two caps for Scotland, did show glimpses of his ability, his outing against RB Leipzig showed what he could offer, and it seems Celtic fans can have hope that he can be a success at their club.

This isn’t just because of Ross’ glowing verdict but the fact the Sunderland manager shared that Morgan had rocked up at the League One club determined to seize his opportunity.

“What Lewis has done is he’s got the bit between his teeth and has been really good over the last few games. I’m delighted for him because until you walk into Sunderland, you don’t realise how big a club this is,” added Ross.

The fact the 22-year-old is still confident in his ability, eager to improve and show everyone his talents, then it means there is a good chance he can one day soon cement himself as a first-team regular at Celtic.

Hoops fans will be eager for Morgan to do well as given his age, he could be long-term fixture in the first-team and given that he is already with the club then it would see their side not have to embark on a transfer mission to improve their team.
