COMMENTARY
While Peter Beardsley will go down in history as a Newcastle United legend, his reputation at St James’ Park has no doubt been tarnished by allegations of bullying and racism while part of the backroom staff. After over a year without any answers over the investigation launched into his behaviour, the Toon Army finally have some closure – although many of them are frustrated at how long it took. In a short statement on the club’s official website, it was revealed that the former England winger is “no longer employed” by the Magpies, having spent a number of years as a youth coach at his boyhood club. Regardless of the allegations , it is a sad end to his career at the club, but it seems as though the Magpies were not satisfied with his defence and as such have brought his time on Tyneside to an end. However, as many of the fans’ complaints make clear, this took far too long for the club to sort out and if anything were to happen again, it must be dealt with much faster. Thankfully this grey cloud has been lifted and hopefully nothing of the sort rears its head again.
