With all the drama that has been taking place at Celtic over the last couple of months it has been quite easy to forget that Leigh Griffiths has been missing from the first team.

The Scottish hitman was allowed to take some time off by former manager Brendan Rodgers to deal with issues in his personal life, reminding everyone that there are many things that are bigger than football.

Still, as much as the Parkhead faithful are respecting the man’s privacy during what seems to have been a difficult time, they would love to see him back on the pitch and firing Neil Lennon’s men to not only the Premiership title but the Scottish Cup, with a third successive treble in their sights.

When Griffiths is to return remains to be seen but Kris Commons, a former Celtic favourite himself, has claimed that it will not be too long before the fans see him back among the squad, writing in his Daily Mail (as quoted by the Scottish Sun) column: “It’s my understanding that Griffiths is close to making his return following some off-field personal difficulties.”

Music to the ears of the supporters in the green and white half of Glasgow but perhaps not the news that the likes of Odsonne Edouard, Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah want to hear.

The trio have all lined up to lead the line in the Scottish star’s absence but to varying degrees of success and you can be sure that Griffiths’ history with Lennon, the duo with a fondness for each other, will see their places come under threat upon his return.

No one wants to be axed and so the threesome are surely all sweating buckets, knowing that they have to be on top of their game or find first team action at a premium.
