Celtic fans are starting to see why Jeremy Toljan was available for loan in the January window. The 24-year-old was prised from Borussia Dortmund to solve the long-standing right-back conundrum, but his recent performances have been well below expectations. Toljan’s defending was average against Aberdeen in Saturday’s goalless draw, as he frequently failed to adequately track the runs. On an afternoon when Celtic’s build-up play was too slow and predictable, the German symptomised his side’s mediocrity. For a player good enough to have been capped 18 times by his country at Under-21s level, Toljan is clearly underperforming. Celtic certainly didn’t look like a side who have totally dominated the Scottish league since the turn of the year on Saturday, and there is concern among supporters as to whether Toljan should continue to be selected in the starting XI.
