Graham Roberts has been fuming over the FA’s decision to hand Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino a two-match touchline ban after his spat with Mike Dean last month.

Pochettino charged onto the pitch after Spurs’ 2-1 defeat to Burnley to confront the referee.

The FA made it official on Wednesday that Pochettino will be forced to sit in the stands for upcoming games against Southampton and Liverpool.

Spurs legend Roberts lost his mind over the FA’s decision on Wednesday, suggesting that they are trying to help Liverpool win the Premier League title.

“What a joke the Premier League and the FA are re the suspension of Pochettino, giving him two-game touchline ban,” he said via his personal Twitter account on Wednesday. “Is it to help Liverpool as he won’t be on touchline for Southampton and Liverpool?”

OPINION

The FA are definitely right to punish Pochettino for his antics at the end of the Burnley match. Even though Dean looked as though he may have made the confrontation worse, you still can’t do it and the referee has perhaps been punished by his own bosses for his role in the incident. To suggest that the FA are trying to help Liverpool out is a bit daft. Roberts always reacts strongly to things like this but at the end of the day, Pochettino broke the rules. Touchline bans don’t really have any impact on how teams play anyway. The Argentine will surely have some kind of communication with his assistant boss Jesus Perez, telling him what to relay from the team. If anything, Pochettino might benefit from sitting higher up the stands and watching over the action, like rugby bosses do. Once Roberts calms down he might realise that Pochettino probably cares more about being fined £10,000 than being forced to sit in the stands.
