Steven Gerrard must axe Borna Barisic if he wants to name Rangers’ best possible line-up for the clash against Hibernian at Easter Road on Friday night.

Barisic, 26, has been woeful at left-back lately and was particularly poor in the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup last week.

It is surely time for Andy Halliday to return to the side at left-back and replace the £2million [Daily Mail] summer signing from Osijek.

Steven Davis should also return to Gerrard’s starting line-up this week with Ryan Jack reportedly a doubt for the trip to Edinburgh.

Allan McGregor is a no-brainer to start in goals for Rangers’ journey down the M8.

In defence, James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, Joe Worrall and Halliday must all start. Goldson conceded a penalty against the Dons but he should be handed a chance to redeem himself and Worrall was man of the match in the draw at Pittodrie.

With Jack potentially missing out, Davis should start alongside in-form Glen Kamara in the central midfield area.

Scott Arfield must start as the central attacking midfielder, flanked by Daniel Candeias and Ryan Kent on the wings.

Alfredo Morelos is the obvious choice to start up front.

Paul Heckingbottom is yet to see Hibs lose in the Scottish Premiership since replacing Neil Lennon in charge at Easter Road, however if Gerrard names this starting line-up on Friday, Rangers are bound to smash past the Hibees and move within five points of league leaders Celtic.
