Leeds have surely got the most promising youngsters out of any side in the Championship. And you can add the name of Mallik Wilks to the long list of Under-23s who are ready to fight for their first-team place, hopefully in the Premier League, under Marcelo Bielsa next season.

The 20-year-old attacker is on-fire at the moment, with four goals from his last six games from the wing, and is carving out a real reputation for himself at Doncaster. He impressed again in the most recent game, winning the Man of the Match award in the 1-1 draw with Charlton Athletic and has been nominated for the PFA Player of the Month.

And manager Grant McCann heaped even more praise on the youngster on Wednesday, who has scored 13 goals this season, saying, “I think he’s grown as the season has gone on, I think he’s got stronger. He’s got more belief in himself.

“This is what I expected we would get from him but I think he can be better. The lad has got everything to play in the Championship, whether that’s with Leeds, us or somebody else. He’s got all the attributes.”

The 20-year-old returns to Elland Road in the summer and will be targeting a first-team spot after making his senior debut for the club back in 2017. That didn’t go so well and the 1-0 defeat to Sutton was a low point for Leeds, but Wilks has got his head down this season and is growing into himself.

It might be a big step up from League One to the Championship, and another gulf above into the Premier League, but we think that Wilks can be the next breakthrough star at Leeds and we can’t wait to see what he can do for the side when his loan spell ends.
