West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass is facing a one game ban and a fine for a controversial incident behind-the-scenes which is said to have been a gross misunderstanding, according to Claret and Hugh.

The West Ham news outlet, with good connections to the club, claim that the Scottish winger, who was charged by the FA for using abusive and/or insulting language to an official of the UK Anti-Doping organisation, did not intend to cause any trouble on their visit to the training ground.

It is stated that Snodgrass made a joking comment which has backfired, the player said not to be a character who would insult anyone, and that he is now facing a one game ban and a £8,000 fine for his actions.

Opinion

The general public and even those in the know might never find out exactly what was said by Snodgrass but it does not seem in the winger’s nature to insult someone. Fans will have seen him frustrated out on the pitch in the heat of the moment and even then he does not look like an individual who would say something to insult an opponent. It would be a real shame to the Hammers to see him sit out so do not be surprised if they choose to appeal the decision and try to explain the situation. The monetary fine is nothing to a Premier League footballer but the suspension, even a one game one, will not go down well. It will be interesting to see how this one progresses, with over a week to launch an appeal, and so this could well continue at the back of the Hammers’ minds for the coming days.
