Gary Lineker claimed Tottenham will be the more pleased of the north London giants after their 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Saturday.

Spurs came from behind to share the points with the Gunners on a day when they needed a stoppage-time Hugo Lloris penalty save from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to ensure they didn’t crash to a third consecutive defeat.

Match of the Day host and former Spurs striker Lineker claimed it was a “good result” for Mauricio Pochettino’s side that maintained “the clear gap” between the neighbours in the Premier League table.

OPINION

Some wonderfully absorbing late drama at Wembley justified the hype of this fixture and meant both sets of fans were on tenterhooks until the final whistle. The witty Lineker’s verdict is a clear nod to the ‘Mind the gap’ slogan used by Gooners throughout the Arsene Wenger era to highlight their own club’s superiority in north London. In recent seasons, Tottenham have been top dogs and that appears to be set to continue as they maintained their four-point lead over Arsenal with nine matches of the campaign remaining. Had Aubameyang’s duff penalty been hit more cleanly and expertly, then Unai Emery’s side would have been just a point behind their rivals at the end of today. That miss could well come back to haunt Arsenal in the final analysis of the campaign, although seven points out of nine in the last week demonstrates they are well in the running to secure the top-four spot they covet.
