Paul Merson has heaped praise on Newcastle United trio Salomon Rondon, Ayoze Perez, and Miguel Almiron, calling them the best attacking trio in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Since Almiron made his debut against Wolves, the Magpies have been unbeaten in the Premier League, largely down to their new frontline.

Speaking on Soccer Saturday (Sky Sports News, 12pm, Saturday March 2nd), Merson was quick to hail their impact.

He said: “I think they’re a dangerous side. With these three now, you could say to the other seven ‘just stay and let them get on with it’.

“This is as good a three as any you will see, definitely in the bottom half of the table. They’re best three by a million miles in my opinion, and these are threat at the moment to anybody.

“They’re all singing off the same hymn sheet, which is the main thing.”

OPINION

The impact that Almiron has had on this Newcastle United side, and the way that he has immediately slotted into their starting lineup, has been immense. For the first time in a long, long time, the Magpies have an attacking threat that they can get get genuinely excited by. There is a balance to the interplay between that front three, with Almiron’s pace and trickery acting as the perfect foil to the physicality of Rondon and the tireless work ethic of Perez. The extent to which the Paraguayan has elevated the Toon Army is remarkable, and you have to say that they look as if they are capable of scoring goals against anybody now. That has not been the case for a long time now, and the novelty of it will surely take a long time to wear off for supporters. In the short term, however, this newfound trident of attacking talent should be enough to fire them to safety.
