Newcastle are taking an interest in Spanish striker Alhagi Touray, according to football website Football Insider

They claim that Premier league rivals Burnley have made a decisive move already, getting Touray to Turf Moor for a trial on Monday. This follows a trial with Scottish side Hearts in January.

Now Touray will get a chance to prove himself at Burnley in a behind-closed-doors match that could see him offered a move to the Premier League side.

However, Newcastle, along with Cardiff and Crystal Palace are also keeping tabs on the 19-year-old.

OPINION

Alhagi Touray has been turning heads this season and is the top-scorer in the Catalan third-tier for Santvicenti. He’s scored 30 goals in 24 games and that sort of scoring record is always going to get you on the radars of bigger clubs. However, he didn’t do enough at Hearts to win over Craig Levein, and he would be one for the future for any of the Premier League sides currently looking at him. Newcastle are in need of goals. Striker Salomon Rondon has been in fine form this season, with four goals in his last eight games, and we thought that Newcastle would trigger his £16.5million clause and make his deal permanent at the end of the season. However, the Daily Mail has reported that Mike Ashley is likely to block the move over Rondon’s age – he’s 29.  Touray has got his whole career in front of him and he would come at an Ashley-friendly price, but Newcastle will still need a frontman capable of keeping them in the Premier League next season.
