OPINION
It’s been a long wait for Tottenham fans, but they got the chance to sample their new stadium for the first time on Sunday as their Under-18s side played Southampton – and they loved what they saw. In fact a few fans were left in tears, as shown by a video posted by the official Tottenham Twitter account. As you might expect, this led to fans from other clubs racing onto Twitter to rib the reactions, but many more admitted that the stadium looks amazing. J’Neil Bennett made history, scoring the first goal in the new stadium and on Saturday it’s the turn of the legends, including Jurgen Klinsmann, as the final test event before the official opening plays out. Following that, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will open its doors to the Premier League as Spurs host Crystal Palace on Wednesday, April 3. In the meantime, many Tottenham fans flocked onto Twitter to make their feelings felt on what they think of the stadium, with one saying “Even I shed a tear, and I basically hate everything”. Worth the wait, then? It certainly seems to be the case judging from these reactions.

Can't wait. What a day. The hundreds singing in the bar after the match brought tears to my eyes. No-one wanted to go home. #cantsmilewithoutyou #SpursNewStadium #COYS #THFC

Brilliant @SpursOfficial test event yesterday. Bar 1 or 2 minor mishaps, lights in the gents dying & beer taps frothing up (guess that’s why you have test events),a very well organised day. Looking forward to this view in our first Prem game against Palace. #COYS #SpursNewStadium pic.twitter.com/N8VoQtpCR6
