Liverpool are sweating on the fitness of three senior players ahead of Sunday’s Premier League showdown against Burnley, according to the Echo.

The regional newspaper claim centre-back Dejan Lovren, midfielder James Milner and full-back Alberto Moreno all missed Wednesday’s training session at Melwood.

The Echo report Lovren’s hopes of making his comeback this weekend after two months out hang in the balance, while vice-captain Milner has been suffering from hamstring pain.

Of the trio, Lovren and Milner will be the ones who most concern Jurgen Klopp, although Moreno’s absence from training is also significant if indefatigable first choice left-back Andrew Robertson were to break down. Milner came off the bench in last Sunday’s Premier League draw at Everton and played poorly, just as he had at Old Trafford in the draw at Manchester United in a less familiar right-back role. Nevertheless, the veteran’s experience, versatility and pedigree make him a key member of the side and there is a good chance he would start against Burnley if fit and available for selection. Lovren has been out two months with the latest in a series of niggling injuries that have been a feature of his Liverpool career. Yet, Klopp would be eager to name the proven performer on the bench as back-up to Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip, who have combined excellently as Liverpool have secured four consecutive clean sheets.
