Celtic head of recruitment Lee Congerton is at the heart of a four-way tussle for his signing as he looks to head out the Parkhead door, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claim that alongside Premier League outfit Leicester City, who have just taken former Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers to the King Power Stadium, there is interest from outside the UK in the shape of Belgian heavyweights Anderlecht and two sides from the United States.

As written on Sky Sports News (10:42) the broadcaster said: “Sky sources: Leicester face competition for Celtic’s head of recruitment Lee Congerton. Anderlecht and two MLS clubs also bidding to hire Congerton away from Celtic.”

The senior figure joined the Hoops two years ago and has helped to bring in the likes of French successes Odsonne Edouard and Olivier Ntcham through the door.

Opinion

Congerton might be seen as something of a top figure when it comes to recruiting quality talent on a limited budget but there have been plenty of flops to dampen the successes he has managed to take to Glasgow. His record is nothing special and the Celtic faithful will be scratching their heads as to why he is so in demand. The exit of Rodgers, who obviously had a strong working relationship with his transfer chief, will have no doubt triggered the prospect of change behind the scenes and it seems as though Congerton is viewed as someone that the club can afford to let go. The pressure will be immense if he moves to Leicester in comparison to the other clubs mentioned and so he needs to decide what he wants for his career. If he can handle battling it out in the Premier League then he should go for it, but any doubts should be heeded and action taken.
