Of all the areas Everton need to strengthen this season, many fans would feel that signing a new striker would be high on Marcel Brands’ shopping list.

It is clear to see that the Toffees’ attack is not clicking, and that is no surprise given that they have the likes of Cenk Tosun waiting in the wings – he is hardly the most prolific of strikers, something which is no secret to the supporters.

He is a terrible excuse of a striker, and the only way they can solve this long-serving issue is by signing a frontman who actually knows how to score goals and is capable of handling the pressure that leading the line brings.

This is exactly why the entire Everton fanbase will be raging at the fact that Director of Football Brands has hinted that he does not want to sign a prolific attacker in the summer, in fear of stunting the progress of the club’s young talent.

“I think we have a good squad and I am aware that the fans are asking if we can find a new striker who can score 20 goals,” Brands said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“I think we are a very, very lucky club in England that we have three players with great potential who are just 21-years-old. We have Dominic [Calvert-Lewin], we have Richarlison and we have Ademola [Lookman].

“And if I bring in a new player, a huge striker or a name, should I destroy one of them? It is also my goal to protect those boys. Everyone agrees with me that they have great potential and a great future.”

However, to rely on these players completely is not the view that Brands should be taking. Yes, they are capable of getting you a few goals, but are they capable of firing  Everton up the table? Absolutely not. An out and out striker who scores at least 20 goals a season is desperately needed.

Either way, the entire fanbase are set to be raging after this transfer hint. Brands needs to make a sharp U-turn on this nonsensical stance, and quickly.
