Adam Forshaw has a knee injury that is worse than Leeds were expecting, according to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay.

The last game he played was the 3-1 defeat to Norwich at the start of February. After that, manager Marcelo Bielsa said that he might make the Middlesbrough clash a week later.

He missed that and it was then said he could be back for the Swansea game. He missed that too and was then ruled out of the Bolton and QPR games.

In Monday’s press conference, Bielsa didn’t give a return date and just said he needed more time.

One Leeds fan asked Phil Hay, “What’s actually wrong with Forshaw? Was a ‘doubt’ for Boro away and since missed six games.”

Phil Hay responded saying, “Knee problem. A bit worse than Leeds expected (but not major).”

Hay delivered his update on Monday night on his personal Twitter page.

OPINION

The mystery regarding Leeds midfielder Adam Forshaw has been deepening every week and now there’s no word on when he’s going to return. Hay says it’s not a “major” injury but six weeks and counting out is fairly big. Thankfully, Leeds have hit a run of form without the man who Bielsa actually preferred to Kalvin Phillips in his last game against Norwich, and haven’t suffered any fresh injuries. Given Bielsa’s propensity to field an unchanged team, even if Forshaw was back he would be sat on the sub’s bench at the moment. That’s what’s happened to Barry Douglas, who might have thought he was a shoe-in to come straight back into the side when he returned from injury. If Leeds keep winning then Douglas won’t get back in the side for the rest of the season. The games this week are season-defining. A win against Reading tonight and another three points against Sheffield United on Saturday would see Leeds take a massive leap towards the top-flight. A win tonight and a draw against Sheffield United would be the minimum Leeds fans are looking for.
