Tottenham are in pursuit of Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha, according to Calcio Mercato.

The Italian news outlet claims that Spurs are eyeing up the 23-year-old with the view to him replacing Hugo Lloris.

However it is understood that Lazio could offer the Albania international a new deal to fend off growing interest in their shot-stopper.

Calcio Mercato adds that the 6ft 4 (transfermarkt) colossus earns just £17,000-a-week on his current deal in the Italian capital.

Good move for Tottenham?

Strakosha is a good goalkeeper, but do Spurs really need to think about replacing Lloris just now?

The France international was in stunning form on Tuesday night as Spurs beat Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

He is the club captain and only 32-years-old, so there are plenty of years left in the goalkeeper.

Strakosha could be a good signing in the future, but Tottenham do not need to fork out what will inevitably be a big fee in the summer for him when Lloris is doing just fine.

Likely to happen?

Daniel Levy has not paid for Spurs to sign any players in over a year, so why would he let Mauricio Pochettino buy Strakosha in the summer when he isn’t needed?

Tottenham could need a replacement for Michel Vorm as his deal expires at the end of the season, but they will only replace him with someone cheap and available.

Strakosha is bound to cost a lot of money so there’s no way that Spurs will be signing him this summer – unless Lloris decides he wants to leave.
