Alan Shearer has slammed Liverpool for their “poor” performance in the 1-1 draw against West Ham on Monday night, but has claimed that it was a “good result” for Tottenham.

Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table by earning a sole point at the London Stadium, but the Hammers could really have walked away with all three one what was a frustrating night for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Spurs are now five points behind the Reds, who lead the race for the Premier League title, and Shearer seems to suggest that Mauricio Pochettino’s men have had their title hopes boosted by Monday night’s result.

“A really poor performance again from Liverpool,” he said via his personal Twitter account. “A good result for Spurs and Man City.”

OPINION

Everyone was writing Tottenham off not long ago but they have continued to pick up the wins and reel in Liverpool despite being without some of they key players in recent weeks. Harry Kane and Dele Alli are currently out while Heung-min Son missed a good chunk of January due to the Asian Cup. Spurs might be ever closer to the Reds if they had all their best players available, but the fact that they are still being talked about in the race for the title says a lot about Pochettino’s squad and how well-drilled his fringe players are when they have come in. Fernando Llorente, for example, is out of contract in the summer and most Spurs fans would have thought his time at the club was all but over. However he has scored one goal and supplied two assists in his last two Premier League outings to help Tottenham beat Watford and Newcastle United.
