Chris Sutton claimed that Rangers shouldn’t accept any offer less than £20million for attacker Alfredo Morelos if they go on to sell him in the summer.

The outspoken pundit claimed that the Gers should demand at least that amount due to the fact the 22-year-old forward is an important player for them.

Sutton also added that clubs in Scotland can’t keep selling players cheaply and did go on to reference the amount Celtic received for Virgil Van Dijk when they sold him to Southampton.

“Rangers shouldn’t accept any less than £20million for Morelos as he is that important to them, we can’t keep selling players in Scotland on the cheap,” said Sutton on BT Sport Football’s Periscope account, as uploaded to the broadcaster’s Twitter.

OPINION

Sutton is spot-on to claim that Rangers should only accept offers above £20million as surely he is worth at least that amount. Clinical forwards always garner a high price when being sold so why should Morelos be any different. The 22-year-old has scored 23 goals in 38 games this season and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. While the forward’s temperament is a concern for the Gers as well as potential suitors, it shouldn’t effect his price too much. However if it’s possible to keep Morelos at Ibrox than Steven Gerrard should do his utmost to make that scenario happen. If the Gers lose Morelos it will be a big blow for them and it will be extremely difficult to find a forward who can score as many goals as the Colombian for a reasonable price in order to replace him. Although it’s worth noting, the more money Rangers get from the potential sale of Morelos, the easy it will be able to secure a replacement they can afford.
