Celtic supporting Alan Brazil has said that he could not bring himself to back Rangers even if it meant the Hoops winning the Premiership title.

The Parkhead outfit lead the rest of the Scottish top flight with Rangers second and Aberdeen third and speaking of the hunt for fourth in the Premier League, Arsenal legend David Seaman admitted he would be backing Tottenham to beat Chelsea to boost his side’s hopes.

When probed about whether he would be backing the Light Blues if his beloved Celtic needed them to beat Aberdeen to secure the Bhoys the title, Brazil insisted he would not be watching the game.

He said on his Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast talkSPORT show (27/02): “Honestly, I wouldn’t watch the game. I wouldn’t watch it. I couldn’t, I couldn’t.

“(What if Ally McCoist got the Rangers job?) I’d want them to come second.”

Opinion

There are some fans out there who would be willing to bury their rivalries for a temporary period if their rivals’ success improved their own side’s chances of glory. However, finding a Rangers or Celtic fan who will ever wish the other Glasgow outfit even a modicum of luck is like finding a needle in a haystack – just with a miniature needle and a whole lot of hay. Of course Brazil is never going to be backing the Gers, regardless of what it might mean for the Hoops. It is just not in his or any other Parkhead faithful’s nature and you can expect the same reaction from those over at Ibrox. Of course it is different if there is a top flight title on the line but that is such a specific scenario that it is unlikely to happen – plus both sets and fans would be loathed to rely on their fiercest of rivals in their hunt for the Premiership trophy.
