Ahmed Hegazi could miss West Brom’s Championship showdown against Leeds United at Elland Road on Friday night due to an ankle injury, according to the Express & Star.

The newspaper claims that Hegazi, 28, has been left out of Egypt’s squad for the upcoming international break after he limped off the pitch in the 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United last week.

It is understood that the centre-back is now a doubt for the trip to Yorkshire on Friday and Tosin Adarabioyo is expected to replace him in Darren Moore’s backline.

OPINION

If Hegazi misses this game then it is a major blow for West Brom. The Egypt international has been such a key player for the Baggies this season, appearing in 32 matches across all competitions. It just goes to show how important Hegazi is for West Brom when you consider that when he has missed a Championship game for Albion, they have failed to win. He has missed five league games this term and each time Albion have suffered a draw or defeat, which is surely a stat that no West Brom fan will want to hear going into such a massive game against Leeds. Defeat to Sheffield United last week was a huge blow in the club’s bid for automatic promotion, and failing to beat Leeds will surely kill off any chances that are left. Adarabioyo has not looked too shabby in his recent centre-back performances, especially in the FA Cup, so there could be hope yet for the Baggies.
