Chris Sutton has delivered his one-worded verdict on Scott Brown’s stunning strike against St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup.

The midfield battler unleashed a thunderous right-footed strike into the top corner from around 30 yards to double the Hoops lead in the ninth minute in from of a rapturous Celtic Park crowd.

The screamer came nearly two years to the day since Brown’s last goal for the Bhoys.

Taking to Twitter, former Celtic man Sutton retweeted a video of the strike with the comment: “Belter”.

OPINION

Brown doesn’t score many, but what a goal this was. The way he ambles up to the ball, takes a touch to set himself, and then unleashes a rocket into the top corner is genuinely world class. The ball is still travelling when it hits the back of the net, and probably would have endangered the fans sat behind the goal if it wasn’t for the intervention of the onion bag. It’s the kind of strike that comes from a moment of madness, a rush of blood to the head, and that comes off once in every couple of hundred attempts. The fact that it was Brown who hit it as well makes it so much sweeter. The captain is just about the last man you would expect to have a go at something so audacious, and when it flashes past the goalkeeper, he looks as shocked as anybody else. It may have been part of a rout, but that goal will live long in the memory.
