OPINION

Tottenham kept in touch with their rivals at the top of the table with a 2-1 win over Leicester City at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

A Davinson Sanchez opener was followed up by a Christian Eriksen strike to give Mauricio Pochettino’s men a comfortable lead, before Jamie Vardy made up for his saved penalty by netting to make it a nervy end to proceedings for the home side.

The three points remained in north London thanks to Heung-min Son’s late goal in a much needed result for Spurs – but who shone and who sunk in white?

This is Futbol has rated and slated the Spurs stars at Wembley:

Goalkeeper and defence

Lloris: 9 – A top quality performance from the shot stopper, who was called upon a couple of times by the Foxes, not least for his save from Jamie Vardy’s penalty. From open play he had to be on his toes and looked confident throughout. As a goalkeeper, he was Spurs’ surprise man of the match.

Trippier: 5 – Not what fans have come to expect from the English flyer. Caught out at the back by the likes of Harvey Barnes while struggled to have an effect in the final third. Bang average.

Sánchez: 8 – A rock at the back but it was the other end where he made the biggest impact, scoring the all important opener. Great in possession as well as formidable when trying to win the ball back.

Vertonghen: 5 – A surprisingly average display from the Belgian. Caught out twice for the penalty and while it might have been soft, he forced the referee to make a decision with his clumsiness. Another senior star who should have done better.

Rose: 8 – A brilliant display of what a modern day full back is all about. His pace caused Leicester plenty of problems in attack while he looked comfortable when forced to defend.

Midfield

Winks: 7 – Deployed as a deep lying midfielder once again, the English star looked right at home in the role. Might not have been as commanding as the likes of Wilfried Ndidi but dictated play from deep much more effectively.

Sissoko: 7 – The Frenchman possesses great stamina and used that to full effect against the Foxes, carrying the ball up and down the pitch while chasing the opposition when needed.

Skipp: 6 – The youngster looked a little off the quality required and it was clear he was lacking in experience compared to every other midfielder on the pitch. Not a bad performance, just nothing special.

Attack

Eriksen 8 – As always it was the Danish ace who produced a touch of class to give Spurs full command of the tie. His goal was as typical an effort as you will see from the attacking maestro, placing the ball with power from just outside the box.

Son: 8 – Unlucky to see himself booked early on for an alleged act of simulation but did not let it affect his performance. Full of energy as always, he stretched the Foxes defence to create space for others to take advantage of and finished things off brilliantly late on.

Llorente: 6 – The Spaniard certainly does not have the same goal threat of Harry Kane and never looked like finding a way onto the score sheet. However, his power caused some problems and he laid off the pass for Eriksen to strike.

Substitutes

Alderweireld (70′): 6 – Brought on to bolster things at the back, the Belgian was not as solid as Pochettino would have hoped.

Wanyama (79′): 6 – Another defence minded replacement for Spurs, the Kenyan tried to calm things down in his short time on the pitch.

Walker-Peters (88′) N/A – The young talent was given mere minutes off the bench to replace Danny Rose.
