OPINION
There has been a sizeable continent of Tottenham’s fanbase who have vocally doubted Hugo Lloris in recent weeks. It’s fair to say that the Frenchman has looked a little bit off the pace of late, but any questions over the legitimacy of his number one spot were surely quelled by his superhuman performance against Leicester City on Sunday afternoon. There have been few moments quite as dramatic as Jamie Vardy coming off the bench to take a penalty with his first touch this season, and the World Cup winning stopper seemed dead set on making sure that the England striker was thwarted, much to the raucous delight of the Wembley crowd. The fact that Spurs went up the other end and doubled their lead four minutes later just made the moment all that sweeter, and then for the 32-year-old to deny Harvey Barnes with his feet shortly after, those who had called into question his position must have been wolfing down their humble pie. One good game doesn’t absolve a prolonged period of shakiness, but it should serve as a reminder to supporters as to just how good their keeper can be when he’s in the right frame of mind.
