Neil Lennon is set to meet with Celtic today for talks about the potential managerial vacancy, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster’s verified Twitter account stated on Tuesday afternoon that the former Hibernian manager was due to discuss becoming Hoops manager once again after it was previously confirmed by the club’s official website that Brendan Rodgers was set for talks with Leicester City.

Sky Sports quickly followed up their update on Lennon to share that the Hoops are awaiting for official confirmation from the Foxes of Rodgers’ departure before moving things forward officially.

OPINION

It seems that while Celtic are not officially aiming to make progress towards appointing Rodgers’ replacement, they are acting quickly to ensure they are not left in the lurch. When links between Rodgers and Leicester City first emerged, Hoops supporters were likely rolling their eyes as they had heard it all before. The Northern Irish manager has constantly been linked to Premier League jobs during his time at the Hoops and it has never led anywhere. Yet it seems just as quickly as Rodgers’ name was in the hat, he’s seemingly on his way to the King Power Stadium. It’s a great shame for Celtic as they should feel let down by the manager’s decision to even consider packing his bags before the season is over. Changing managers can unsettled a team and it’s just disappointing from all aspects that Rodgers is potentially leaving at this time. However Lennon has previously been successful at Celtic and knows the club inside and out, so it looks like the board are going for an appointment that will see the Hoops not lose any momentum. Even if Lennon is a temporary appointment, it does seem like a smart move by all accounts.
