Mauricio Pochettino has described today the pain he felt watching Liverpool drop points against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Tottenham manager has revealed he could take no joy from his team’s title rivals failing to secure a win at Old Trafford in a match that ended goalless.

Asked how he felt about the Liverpool match, Pochettino explained that he was still down from Spurs’ defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor 24 hours earlier.

“Yes, but that didn’t make me more happy. It was still just as painful for me,” said Pochettino at his media conference on Tuesday, as quoted by Football London.

OPINION

Spurs are only six points behind Liverpool with 11 matches of the campaign remaining, and ahead of some mouthwatering midweek Premier League fixtures that will add further intrigue to the tussle for title glory. Most pundits and observers claim it is a two-horse race between Liverpool and Manchester City, claiming Spurs lack the squad depth and mental strength to properly challenge. They would be right. Pochettino’s side have done a marvellous job once again this season of punching above their weight, but it is a critical failing of the team that they seem to always slip up just when they are on the verge of something special. How frustrating that is for Pochettino, who explains how he was still immensely disappointed and frustrated – and, no doubt, angry, too – on Sunday afternoon as he struggled to deal with the emotions of defeat to Burnley, a team his side were expected to defeat.
