Celtic are keen on Moyes – report

|

Celtic may make a renewed approach to land David Moyes if Brendan Rodgers is lured away amid interest from Leicester City, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim the 55-year-old is a strong contender to replace Rodgers if he exits for Leicester, who have targeted him to replace the sacked Claude Puel.

The Mail report former Celtic centre-back Moyes would now be interested in taking over at Parkhead after the club failed in a bid to entice him in the past.

OPINION

Moyes’ reputation has taken a major dent in recent years after a calamitous year at Manchester United, overseeing Sunderland’s relegation and a hit-and-miss spell at West Ham that ended with the sack. He is unlikely to get too many Premier League job offers, and his best route back into football is either a Championship club or a return to his native Scotland. Would he be a good fit for Celtic? Possibly. He knows the Scottish game, would have the respect of a squad used to winning and is experienced at managing elite clubs where expectations are high. Yet, there is a sense Moyes would be a downgrade on Rodgers, who is expert at nurturing and improving players, which is key to being a hit at Parkhead, and has a playing style that has helped the team dominate domestically during his three years at the helm. The Scot has a reputation for playing more direct football and preferring caution to adventure. It’s quite some time, too, since he had his teams massively punching above their weight, as was the case at Everton and Preston North End.
