Alan Brazil reckons that Rangers’ upcoming clash against Aberdeen will be a big test for striker Alfredo Morelos.

He says that the star forward needs to focus on inflicting damage on the opposition instead of on himself after a number of hot-headed moments from the Colombian this season – and if he manages to do that, the Gers will take home all three points.

However, he added that if the 5ft 10in [Transfermarkt] ace cannot keep it together against Aberdeen on Wednesday, then they are more than capable of inflicting some damage on Rangers themselves.

“It will also be a test for Alfredo Morelos, whose hot-headed streak has seen him red- carded twice in the league against Aberdeen this season,” he said in his Sunday Post column.

“The Colombian also missed Rangers’ League Cup semi-final with the Dons through suspension. So the onus is on him more than most to show that he can inflict damage on Aberdeen, rather than on himself and his own side as in previous games.

“If he can screw the nut, Rangers are in with a shout. If not, I can see the Dons doing some damage of their own.”

OPINION

Morelos has been famous for his temper this season, and it can ultimately prove to be his downfall is he is not lucky. He has been red-carded twice due to expressing his emotions too much, and if he does this against Aberdeen on Wednesday, he will cause damage for his own team – just as Brazil pointed out. He needs to keep his emotions in check, because as we have discovered this season, the Gers really struggle without him in the side. Their goal threat decreases and teams have a better chance of winning due to him not being in the starting XI – and if he gets hot-headed again, Rangers chances of securing the Scottish Premiership title will be very slim indeed. He is their best striker, and the Gers desperately need to keep him in line from now on, or face the consequences. Yes, they also have Jermain Defoe on the books, but he is likely to work better playing alongside Morelos.
