Matt Le Tissier has heaped praise on West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, suggesting that he could be one of the signings of the season.

The Polish international joined the Hammers from Swansea City in the summer for around £7 million, and has been a standout performer for the Irons ever since.

Speaking on Soccer Saturday (Sky Sports News, Saturday February 9th, 12pm), former Southampton man Le Tissier said: “This boy has been outstanding this season. I can’t remember him making any mistakes.

“He has been an absolute bargain. When they talk about bargains of the transfer window, his name will be very near to the top of the list.

“He’s brilliant.”

OPINION

Fabianski has gone under the radar a little this season, but he has been masterful in the West Ham net. It can be hard for a goalkeeper to get noticed, especially one at a mid table side, unless they are making howlers on a regular basis, but Fabianski fully deserves some credit. The Pole is an old school, no-nonsense stopper who prefers a catch to a punch, and who will rarely make a save for the sake of the cameras watching. In some ways, this doesn’t help his cause. At 33, his no frills approach isn’t exactly fashionable, and the Edersons and De Geas over the league will always garner far more attention, but you get the impression that that probably suits the West Ham man down to the ground. The only thing he will be bothered about is doing his job like he has been all season, and if things continue in the same vein, the Hammers’ only regret about signing him might be that they didn’t do it sooner.
