OPINION

Lewis Grabban was made for the Championship. The striker is lethal in the second tier, and is ripping up trees at Nottingham Forest when he does actually get on the pitch, but lord knows he should not be allowed to take penalties. The 31-year-old struck early to give Martin O’Neill’s side the lead over Brentford on Saturday afternoon, but was brought crashing back down to earth later in the match when he managed to miss his fourth penalty of the season, with Bees keeper Daniel Bentley pulling off a heroic double save to deny the forward and then the follow up. It’s strange that such a proven hitman should be so dire from 12 yards, but surely after his latest miss, Grabban must be taken off penalty duty. Whether it’s a confidence thing or just a sheer lack of ability from the spot, it’s gotten to the stage now where fans expect Grabban to miss, and it really shouldn’t be like that. Joe Lolley is probably the most obvious option to assume the duty from now on, but whoever it is cannot fare any worse than the striker, who, for his own sake as much as that of the team’s, cannot be allowed to take any more spot kicks.
