Stephen Craigan has claimed that Glen Kamara will not play for Rangers between now and the end of the season.

The 23-year-old joined the Light Blues on a permanent deal from Dundee on transfer deadline day after agreeing a pre-contract deal earlier in January.

Although his move to Ibrox has happened a lot earlier than originally scheduled, BT Sport pundit Craigan cannot see him breaking into Steven Gerrard’s first team right now.

“I think what Kamara will between now and the end of the season is get up speed, see what the standards are like, what capabilities he has, what it’s like to play at Ibrox,” said Craigan on BT Sport 1’s Scottish Football Extra on Friday night.

When asked by Chris Sutton if he whether he will play, Craigan said: “No he won’t. Not between now and the end of the season, I would have thought.”

OPINION

There are a lot of pros and cons to Rangers’ decision to sign Kamara early. The Finland international is a decent player but he’s hardly any better than what Gerrard already has in his midfield, which is already well-stocked after signing Steven Davis on loan from Southampton earlier in the month. As Craigan says, he will get the lay of the land in the second-half of the season and that could see him hit the ground running a bit better next term. However him not playing any first team football between now and the summer could be a bad thing. Kamara is only 23-years-old so still has room to improve himself. It’s an important age and he needs to be playing regularly. He hadn’t played for Dundee in the last three games so signing him permanently and loaning him out elsewhere could have been a better plan with him regularly returning to Auchenhowie to train.
