Southampton missed a trick by not signing Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea ahead of Crystal Palace as he would have been the perfect forward to boost the club’s firepower in the second half of the season.

The 25-year-old forward was clearly available for the taking based on the fact he moved to Crystal Palace in January and the Saints really should have gone all out in a pursuit of him in order to welcome him to St Mary’s.

Instead Crystal Palace will be benefiting from Batshuayi’s talents, as they confirmed that he had joined them on loan via their official website, and they surely be better for having him to call upon.

The Saints really needed to welcome a new forward to the club in January as they have struggled in front of goal this season, but they failed to get a deal for an attacker.

Given that Batshuayi ticks every box they should be looking to tick, you have to believed they missed an opportunity to solve their goalscoring by snapping up the 25-year-old.

The Belgian international knows the Premier League very well having featuring 32 times in the division and could have thrived at St Marys’.

The forward would have been perfect as he’d would have been able to settle in quickly and his clinical nature in front of goal, while having not been shown in England as yet, is known due to the fact he scored nine goals in 14 games for Borussia Dortmund last season.

The Saints have constantly carved out the type of chances Batshuayi would have loved if he was a member of their team this season, and having not spotted the opportunity to sign him, it’s clear the club have missed out.

This is especially when you consider that the Saints didn’t welcome any new forward and the fact Batshuayi is going to a club whose Premier League status is also in jeopardy.

Therefore it’s clear to see that Southampton missed a trick by not signing Batshuayi as he’d have been the perfect solution to solve their problems in front of goal.
