Rangers face losing the services of Joe Worrall this month as parent club Nottingham Forest keep a close eye on his performances on loan at Ibrox, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claim on the live transfer blog on their website (10/01, 10:48) that the Championship outfit have been keeping tabs on his displays as they weigh up a recall from Glasgow and that the uncertain future of Aitor Karanka at the City Ground could see him head back to England sooner than expected.

Worrall signed a season-long loan deal at the Gers in the summer and has been a mainstay for the club since with 17 appearances across all competitions.

Opinion

Not the news that Steven Gerrard wants to be faced with this month. Worrall might have endured one or two shaky moments during his time at Ibrox but there is no doubting that he is an important member of the first team squad. Losing him back to Forest would mean either facing the rest of the season with a paper thin defence in terms of centre backs or having to go out this month and source a replacement, which is no doubt easier said than done. Gerrard will no doubt be doing everything he can to convince Forest he is better suited in Glasgow for the rest of the season than heading back into the Championship, but if a new boss does come through the door then he might not have much of a choice. Very much a situation to keep a close eye on, for all the club’s good work this month could become unravelled with the exit of the senior powerhouse.
