Celtic have given the green light for Lewis Morgan to depart on loan this month as top flight rivals Aberdeen make contact over securing his temporary signing, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Hoops are willing to let the 22-year-old midfielder depart Parkhead after appearing 13 times this season, just one of which came among the starting XI.

It is stated that while Hull City were leading the race for his capture, Aberdeen have been in touch with the Hoops over a move as they look to offset the potential of current star Gary Mackay-Steven and that Morgan and the club are weighing up their options.

Good move for Celtic?

It all depends on what the Hoops plan to do with the wide man in the near future.

Sending him to Hull City would show whether he has got what it takes to shine in England and if he impresses it could add a little more onto his transfer price tag when the Hoops do cash in.

Sending him to Aberdeen on the other hand will get him experience of Scotland’s top flight and make him a better player for the division, perhaps readying him for a stint in the Bhoys’ first team or ready to sell on to another Premiership rival.

The player himself will know what he wants and whether he wants to test himself in a new division, but either way a loan move definitely makes sense.

Likely to happen?

This could all come down to what Morgan wants for the next six months.

Both Hull and Aberdeen are competitive sides in their respective divisions and it would be a battle to forge his way in the first team on his immediate arrival.

He obviously knows Scotland better than English football and with Mackay-Steven potentially on the way out might feel there is a ready made place in the starting XI at Aberdeen.
