With the exit of Mousa Dembele Tottenham are looking a little thin when it comes to their midfield options – injuries compounding the issues faced by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

With the Belgian’s departure and injuries and illness suffered by the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Victor Wanyama and Eric Dier, it has left Harry Winks as the only experienced senior option in north London, young talent Oliver Skipp handed more and more game time.

Dier and Wanyama are both defensive midfielders with a focus on breaking up play and while Dembele carried out a similar role, he had much more mobility and talent on the ball which made him one of the most commanding figures in the Premier League.

Filling his boots will be no easy task but someone has to do it – and a raid for Schalke’s German international Sebastian Rudy would have the Spurs faithful forgetting about their former favourite in no time.

At 28-years-old the 27-cap ace is at the prime of his abilities and his experience would give Pochettino exactly what he will be missing without Dembele.

The Sun claim that Manchester City are chasing Rudy’s capture and if the current champions want him then there is no doubting the ability he would bring to Tottenham – the £35million asking price small change for someone of his talents.

He might not be the long-term option that Tottenham want but he would bring a quality that no one at the club has to offer right now and it would not harm their chances of breaking into the top two any time soon.
