OPINION
Tottenham took the unusual step of announcing that Paulo Gazzaniga would start in goal for Tottenham tomorrow in the Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea.
However, if they were prepared for a backlash – and it’s happened before when they’ve played Michel Vorm in big games – they were in for a pleasant surprise as fans were loving the decision.
Gazzaniga has put in some brilliant performances for Tottenham this season, proving himself a more than able deputy for Hugo Lloris.
In fact Lloris has come in for way more criticism this season, with plenty of fans wanting to see Gazzaniga given his chance in the Premier League.
If he pulls off another blinder in the semi-final against Chelsea, the calls for him to replace Lloris will grow even louder, with the France international responsible for some costly high-profile mistakes this campaign.
The 27-year-old Argentina international will get his chance tomorrow on a big stage and it will mark his eight appearances this season, two of which came in the Premier League.
