Tottenham are in the hunt to sign Hertha Berlin forward Davie Selke, according to Fussball Transfers.

The German news outlet claims that Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of Selke, and although Spurs are yet to table an offer for the 23-year-old, he would be ready to enter talks about a move to the Premier League club if the chance arose.

It is understood that the 6ft 4 colossus (transfermarkt) is being eyed up as potential back-up for Harry Kane amid uncertainty over the futures of Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen.

German newspaper Sport Bild reported last year that Selke has an £18million release clause in his deal at Hertha Berlin.

Good move for Tottenham?

Selke is really struggling to have an impact at Hertha Berlin this season with the former Germany Under-21 international scored just one goal in 16 appearances across all competitions.

He has only managed to earn five starts in the Bundesliga and surely if Pochettino wants a new second-choice striker, he will want someone who is a bit more prolific.

Selke is still young and has potential, but there is no suggestion that he is any better than Janssen, who is yet to be given a fair chance at the North London club.

Pochettino should avoid Selke at all costs.

Likely to happen?

Daniel Levy simply wouldn’t allow Pochettino to waste money on signing a striker who is struggling to score goals and get into the starting line-up of a team that is far worse than Tottenham.

Pochettino already has a better option right under his nose in Janssen, so the chances of this happening have to be very low.
