Everton are hot on the heels of Porto winger Yacine Brahimi after seeing him score twice for his club in a 3-1 win on Monday night, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim the Merseysiders are running the rule over the Algeria international as he runs down a contract at the Portugese giants that is set to expire in the summer.

The Mirror report that Everton are attracted by the possibility of landing the 28-year-old “at a knockdown price” this month.

Good move for Everton?

Yes. Brahimi is a 39-times international who is at the peak of his career and can be signed for a bargain fee due to his contract situation. Everton have played some impressive football this season and possess some quality wide men – notably Richarlison, Theo Walcott, Ademola Lookman and Bernard – but the team are crying out for more goals and penetration from them. Brahimi could provide that, with his haul of seven goals and six assists from 27 appearances for Porto this season proof of his calibre. In total, he has scored 48 goals and supplied 40 assists from 191 Porto matches. Most of Everton’s players would die for a record like that.

Likely to happen?

This looks a potential go-er for Everton this month, even though Marcel Brands and Bill Kenwright played down the possibility of major January business on Monday night. Brahimi is a free agent in the summer, when he will be able to have his pick of clubs, which means Everton could land a real bargain if they push ahead with a deal this month.
