OPINION

Rangers made up for their disappointing midweek performance against Kilmarnock by bouncing back with a comfortable 3-0 win over Livington to reignite their title hopes.

The Gers came away victorious from the Tony Macaroni Arena courtesy of strikes from Ryan Jack, Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos in a win which launches the club back up to second in the table after falling to fourth due to other results in the Premiership.

It was a much needed win for the Light Blues but what else can be taken away from the game?

This is FutbolĀ has picked out three things learned about the Gers from the clash away from Ibrox:

Halliday and Flanagan face left back battle

This game marked the return of Borna Barisic to the first team and on this performance it is quite clear who Gerrard’s number one choice at left back is going to be.

He was solid at the back – although did not have much to deal with – while his display up in attack was brilliant.

His crosses from out wide matched those of James Tavernier on the other flank and with those two playing Rangers have a serious threat from out wide.

Andy Halliday was the man replaced and Jon Flanagan is another left back option at Ibrox but the duo face a fight to force their way back into the reckoning.

Morelos is best as a lone wolf

After testing a partnership of Jermain Defoe and Alfredo Morelos against Killie Gerrard returned to one up top, the Colombian leading the line over his experienced English counterpart and thriving as a result.

The South American looks so much more comfortable by himself, able to run where he wants and make an impact from numerous areas on the pitch.

His goal was expertly taken from a tight angle and despite Defoe being on the bench it has to be Morelos who is Gerrard’s first choice to lead the line.

The English hitman faces a real problem in trying to force his way into the starting XI again – it is quite clear Morelos is best as a lone wolf up front.

Goldson and Katic are the best at the back

Another returning talent was Nikola Katic, who after two unused substitute outings was given a start alongside Joe Worrall.

The Leicester City loanee impressed alongside the Nottingham Forest man but with regular starter Connor Goldson set to return there is the question as to who will drop out.

The answer is quite clear – Worrall lacks qualities that his counterparts possess and so when Goldson does return the axe will surely drop on the 6’2″ (source: Transfermarkt) giant’s head.
