Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that his side have been handed a huge boost for the clash against Watford in midweek with the return of Heung-min Son to the training ground after his absence on international duty.

The South Korean was away with his country at the Asian Cup but a 1-0 defeat to Qatar in the quarter finals means that he already returned to training on Sunday morning.

Speaking after the club’s 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup, Pochettino admitted that Son was lacking in energy but that he could return for the clash against Watford on Wednesday.

He was quoted by the Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick as saying: “He’s so tired, with not much energy but we hope for Wednesday he’ll be available.”

Opinion

Son is one of the most important players in north London and with Harry Kane ruled out through injury could even find himself leading the line for the foreseeable future, having taken the place of the England striker in the past. It was really unfortunate that the Asian Cup came when it did, the South Korean star forced to miss some crucial games for the Lilywhites which look to have shaped their season as one without silverware. The focus is now on the Premier League and the Champions League and having Son back is a massive boost to Pochettino and his men. His enthusiasm and talent in attack has proven to be a game changer on numerous occasions and the Argentine boss will be hoping that he can continue his form from before his departure for international duty. He might not start against Watford but he will likely be on the bench and is a potent option to call upon.
