Jordan Rossiter is almost certainly going to leave Rangers on loan in the final 48 hours of the January window, it has been confirmed.

Steven Gerrard revealed at his media briefing on Tuesday lunchtime, as quoted by the official Gers Twitter account, that the midfielder is likely to be the only senior player leaving Ibrox at the end of this month.

Gerrard explained in a transfer update that there has been “no offers” for any of the Rangers players but there is a “strong possibility” of Rossiter securing a late-window exit.

Good move for Rangers?

Yes. Naturally, that comes with the caveat that Rangers secure a move to a club where Rossiter can get regular matches and make up for the lost time of the past few seasons. The 21-year-old’s spell at Ibrox has been ruined by a series of serious injuries that have limited him to just 16 first-team appearances, a poor return for a player said to be earning £500,000-a-year, which is a lot by the standards of the SPL. Rossiter has slipped further down the pecking order following the capture of Steven Davis, with the likes of Scott Arfield, Ryan Jack, Andy Halliday, Lassana Coulibaly and fit-again Graham Dorrans ahead of him in the pecking order.

Likely to happen?

As Gerrard suggests, the exit of high-earning Rossiter, who the Daily Mail reported was handed a deal worth £10,000-a-week when he signed in the summer of 2017, is inevitable. It is just a matter of where the former Liverpool player heads, amid reported loan interest from the likes of Motherwell and Dundee United.
