Celtic winger Lewis Morgan is on the verge of joining Sunderland on loan, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claimed via their live transfer blog on Tuesday [12:17pm] that Morgan, 22, is in the north-east of England and is scheduled to undergo a medical with the League One club.

Morgan has only made 13 appearances in all competitions for Celtic since joining the club from St Mirren in the summer.

Brendan Rodgers initially bought the winger last January, but he was sent back on loan to the Buddies to see out the season as they were promoted from the Scottish Championship under the charge of now-Sunderland boss Jack Ross.

Good move for Celtic?

Morgan has barely played for Celtic this season and he needs to be getting regular game-time if he wants to reach his potential.

It is clear that the 22-year-old is someone who can be a solid first teamer for the Bhoys, but he is probably one or two seasons away from that level at the moment.

Letting him go on loan to Sunderland where he will re-united with ex-Buddies manager Ross is a very good idea and hopefully he can become a key player at the Stadium of Light and maybe get another promotion win under his belt in England’s League One.

This move will benefit all parties.

Likely to happen?

With Sky Sports reporting that Morgan is already on Wearside, you can bet that this deal will be done fairly soon.

The two-times Scotland international should pass his medical with flying colours and he is bound to be eager to play under Ross again.
