Rangers must act now in their pursuit of Akhmat Grozny defender Milad Mohammadi as it seems Newcastle United may have taken the lead in the race for him.

The Gers have long been linked to the 25-year-old left-back ever since he made a name for himself with a unique throw-in style at the World Cup in the summer.

Football Insider reported in July that the Gers were battling Huddersfield Town, Stoke City and PSV Eindhoven for Mohammadi with the Scottish Sun echoing that Rangers were interested but that he would cost £2million.

Yet as it stands in January 2019, the Gers seemingly haven’t acted on their interest in Mohammadi and it does feel like it’s now or never for them to get him based on the reported developments surrounding him.

Football Insider  reported on Monday that the Magpies were planning a bid which would blow Celtic and Rangers out of the water so that they won the race for the speedy 25-year-old.

The Daily Mail then went on to claim that Rafa Benitez’s side had been offered Mohammadi’s services and it shows that not only is the speedster available for the taking but that the Premier League side perhaps hold all the cards.

Given that the 25-year-old speedster would excel at Ibrox due to him being defensively capable and having blistering pace which would see him fly done the flanks, the Gers have to act now if they want any chance.

The Magpies are notorious for acting slow in the transfer window so if the Gers finally show their serious about their desire for Mohammadi then they could quickly leap to the front of the queue for him and get his services.

However if they continue to wait around and do nothing, you feel based on the fact he has been offered to the Magpies, they’ll end up missing out on the talented player.
