Celtic defender Marvin Compper is heading for an exit from the club after Brendan Rodgers said that discussions were ongoing to try and find him an escape route before the window closes.

Compper – who has only made one appearance for the Hoops since signing from RB Leipzig last year – is due to leave Parkhead as soon as his representatives and the club finalise a solution about his future.

The 33-year-old centre-back’s injuries have prevented him from playing regularly for Celtic since his arrival, with the one outing to his name coming in the Scottish Cup.

“There’s nothing as of yet – the club are speaking to Marvin’s representatives to try and find a solution,” Rodgers said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

OPINION

This will no doubt be great news not only for the club, Rodgers and its fans, but also for Compper himself. It will certainly be rather demoralising to be out of action for as long as he has, and it would have done a lot of damage to his confidence. Whether he will find a new club after leaving Celtic remains to be seen – it is questionable whether any club will be interested given his poor record with injuries – but fingers crossed that he can, and that he can play out the rest of his playing career in the way that he wants to. He could have been a great defender for Celtic if setbacks did not get in his way, but there is no use in thinking of what could have been. The 6ft tall player (Source: Transfermarkt) is in line to exit the club – as there is clearly no room for him on the books anymore.
