Celtic would strike gold by signing Juventus defender Medhi Benatia as he would be able to make a real difference at the club.

The 31-year-old enforcer is highly decorated having won the Bundesliga twice, Serie A twice and even the Italian Cup as well as German Cup on multiple occasions and would be a marquee signing who’d show the Hoops means business.

Benatia had a fantastic 2017/18 campaign as he was not just solid at the back but contributed going forward as he managed four goals in the 32 appearances he made for Juventus.

The experienced centre-back just oozes class and is comfortable on the ball due to expertly being able to read the game as well as play slick pinpoint passes that help his side dominate possession.

However while he may have been out of Celtic’s reach in the summer after another fantastic season at the Italian giants, his 2018/19 campaign isn’t exactly going to plan.

Benatia has been rooted to the bench for most of the season and has only made a total of five appearances in Serie A.

Given that the top-quality defender is likely frustrated at his situation he may be open to a move to Celtic if the right offer is tabled as he’d be granted opportunities with Brendan Rodgers’ side and could help them improve their fortunes in the Champions League next season.

At the very least Celtic should try their luck as according to Tuttomercatoweb Premier League strugglers Fulham are keen on him and believe they have a shot of luring him to Craven Cottage as they made a request about his services.

If the team currently looking destined to exit the Premier League when all said is done this season thinks they can get him, why shouldn’t Celtic?

Given that Rodgers’ will want to keep making progress at Celtic and the biggest question mark over his reign is his record in the Champions League, the Hoops could help his cause by signing players such as Benatia.

Therefore the Hoops should attempt to sign the highly-decorated enforcer as they would be destined to strike gold if he was successfully recruited.
